On October 21st, 1931 Bela Lugosi leased an apartment in a house located at 2643 Creston Drive.
The house was located on a treacherous winding road high in the Hollywood Hills. This location was an odd choice for a man who didn’t drive, and reportedly, Lugosi ended up in debt to the Dow Limousine Service to the tune of $318.
Lugosi lived in the apartment with Lulu Schubert. She was listed as his maid, but some have speculated that she was actually his mistress, which might explain the remote location.
Lugosi moved out in May of 1932 — before his one-year lease was up. He was sued by his landlords for back rent. In addition, Schubert sued him for $700 in unpaid salary.
